About Texas 42 Game

Texas42Game.com is a passion project — an attempt to bring one of Texas's most beloved domino games to the web so anyone can play, anytime, without needing four people in the same room.

What is Texas 42?

Texas 42 is a trick-taking domino game that has been played in Texas kitchens, church halls, and back porches for well over a hundred years. It's sometimes called the "state game of Texas" — and for good reason. The game has depth, strategy, and just enough luck to keep things interesting no matter how long you've been playing.

It plays like a card game (think Spades or Bridge) but uses a set of 28 dominoes. Four players form two teams of two. You bid, name trump, and try to score enough points — or sweep enough tricks — to make your bid. Simple to learn, genuinely hard to master.

If you've never played before, the Rules page covers everything from the basics to the special bids.

About This Project

This game was built out of a love for Texas 42 and a desire to play it anytime, against anyone — or at least a decent computer opponent when real people aren't available.

The game is fully playable right now. You face off against three AI opponents — Bruce, your Partner, and David — across a full game to 7 marks. The rules are as authentic as we can make them, including the regional variations we actually grew up playing:

Low (Nello) A 3-player bid where the bidder's partner sits out and the bidder must catch zero tricks.
Sevens Everyone plays their closest-to-7 bone each trick. Bidder must win them all.
Plunge Four doubles in your hand? You can go for 4 marks with your partner choosing trump.
Doubles High/Low In Low hands, the bidder decides whether doubles rank high or low in their suit.
Forced Bid When everyone passes, someone has to play Low or Sevens.
Configurable Rules Marks to win, Low bid value, forced bid — all adjustable in Settings.

🚧 Work in Progress

This game is actively being developed. The core game works well but there are still rough edges, the AI can be improved, and there are features we're working toward. We're putting this out early because real feedback from real players is more valuable than building in the dark.

What's Coming

Here's what we're thinking about for future versions — in no particular order:

Multiplayer is the big one. It requires a significant rework of the architecture underneath — but it's the goal. For now, the single-player game is where we're focused.
