Texas42Game.com is a passion project — an attempt to bring one of Texas's most beloved domino games to the web so anyone can play, anytime, without needing four people in the same room.
Texas 42 is a trick-taking domino game that has been played in Texas kitchens, church halls, and back porches for well over a hundred years. It's sometimes called the "state game of Texas" — and for good reason. The game has depth, strategy, and just enough luck to keep things interesting no matter how long you've been playing.
It plays like a card game (think Spades or Bridge) but uses a set of 28 dominoes. Four players form two teams of two. You bid, name trump, and try to score enough points — or sweep enough tricks — to make your bid. Simple to learn, genuinely hard to master.
If you've never played before, the Rules page covers everything from the basics to the special bids.
This game was built out of a love for Texas 42 and a desire to play it anytime, against anyone — or at least a decent computer opponent when real people aren't available.
The game is fully playable right now. You face off against three AI opponents — Bruce, your Partner, and David — across a full game to 7 marks. The rules are as authentic as we can make them, including the regional variations we actually grew up playing:
Here's what we're thinking about for future versions — in no particular order:
Multiplayer is the big one. It requires a significant rework of the architecture underneath — but it's the goal. For now, the single-player game is where we're focused.
